The Democratic Party has won control of both chambers of Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives, in the 2026 US midterm elections. The party won several historic victories in traditionally Republican states such as Kansas and Texas, while Georgia’s incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff – the youngest serving US Senator at 39 – was re-elected for a second term, defeating 59-year-old Republican challenger Mike Collins.
