Chan Tsz-ching wins wushu sanda bronze at AG

Chan Tsz-ching became Hong Kong, China’s first-ever Asian Games medallist in wushu sanda on Wednesday, taking bronze in the women’s 52-kilo category after a semifinal defeat to Iran’s Sogand Sinkaeichetan. Chan lost 0-2 on rounds in the last-four bout. With no bronze-medal match in the event, she shared bronze honours with Jinnat Akter of Bangladesh. Wushu sanda, a full-contact Chinese combat sport often described as kickboxing, had never previously delivered an Asian Games medal for Hong Kong, China. Chan’s result ended that wait. Sinkaeichetan will return to action in Thursday morning’s final against China’s Wu Di. Hong Kong, China’s wushu forms team has also enjoyed success at this edition, with Lydia Sham winning gold in the women’s changquan and Lau Chi-lung taking silver in the men’s nanquan and nangun.
