Friends of Ziv Medical Center announce a collaboration between Los Angeles Bishop Juan Carlos Mendez and Florida Rabbi Moshe Pitchon, two humanitarians coming together to support Medical Assistance for Venezuelan refugees.

When Bishop Juan Carlos Mendez heard that Rabbi Moshe Pitchon was inviting people to join forces with him to put together a humanitarian mission of doctors and medicines to help Venezuelan refugees, he enlisted at once.

Friends of Ziv invite all people who wish to support this effort, to attend the event listed at the website https://www.friendsofziv.org/event/

Bishop Juan Carlos Mendez, the founder and president of Churches for Action, a coalition of 2300 churches that mobilize, on behalf of the needy and destitute, will be in Miami Beach on March 21st to present the Humanitarian Award for medical assistance to Venezuelan refugees at the Life and Hope Awards red-carpet gala.

I am attending this significant event because I believe in the Life and Hope Project mission, to help the needy and afflicted and fight for justice, Bishop Mendez said.

Part of my Ministry s mission is to touch the lives of all people from all of society s facets, whether religious, political or education.

The Awards Ceremony that will take place during a Gala dinner at the Iconic Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, on March 21st recognizes the force for good in the world that is the Medical Profession.

Bishop Menendez, who, back in 1994, joined Mother Teresa in her monumental course of action to feed the poor, is widely recognized as one of the top humanitarians in the nation.

He has established a school in Africa, directed medical journeys in some 90 countries, and most recently the Southern Baptist leader donated a fire truck to the country of Guatemala and opened a health clinic in South Los Angeles.

Bishop Mendez, the recipient of the Medal of Mercy from the hands of Pope Francis, has visited the State of Israel 17 times, and hosted in his church The Courage to Remember, a historical exhibit of the Holocaust, viewed by millions in many countries across the six continents, created by the Museum of Tolerance (MOT), the educational arm of the human rights organization, the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

In presenting to Dr. Rafael Gottenger, the vice president of the Venezuelan American Medical Association, the Life and Hope Humanitarian Award, for his and his colleagues assistance to the Venezuelan people, the Bishop will be bringing a message to remind those in need that they are not abandoned.

With this undertaking and with the work of the honorees, the Life and Hope Awards intent is to convey that we are going to find ways to meet the medical and humanitarian needs of the people of Venezuela and the neighboring states, said the Bishop.

The Life and Hope Awards will also give recognition to the work of Project Brazil, a Sheltering Heart, launched by Fraternity Without Borders, an International NGO operating a Reception Center for Venezuelan refugees crossing into Brazil. The refugees, mostly consisting of family members with children, receive shelter, food, schooling and relocating assistance.

Friends of Ziv for Venezuelan Refugees, the project spurring the Awards, is sponsoring a mission of Israeli doctors from Israel s northernmost hospital, to bring along medicines and vaccines to back Brazil s northernmost hospital. Overwhelmed by the medical needs of thousands of Venezuelans forced to leave their country, hospitals and doctors in towns of countries bordering with Venezuela are in urgent need of support.

Life and Hope will also present Dr. Salman Zarka, the Israeli-Druze director of Israel s northernmost hospital with a humanitarian award. The 25-year veteran of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), has been one of the architects of Israel s humanitarian help to the Syrian people in their hour of need.
