TipsforTrips is releasing information about Saving Moses(R), a global humanitarian organization that helps babies and toddlers around the world where the need is most urgent and the care is least available.

While many travelers explore the world for business and to expand their horizons, there are also groups that travel for the purpose of doing charitable missions. Saving Moses(R) is one of those groups.

The name goes back to Moses, who was saved out of the Nile River by Pharaoh’s daughter. He was a three month old baby at the time. That age is similar to the ages of the children with which the current Saving Moses(R) organization works. Moses went on to become a great leader who freed a slave people and later received a body of law that has been part of foundation of law for western civilization.

Saving Moses(R) runs malnutrition clinics in the Congo and Angola. The doctors who have been there for ten and twenty years have never seen so many babies and toddlers in such dire conditions. That situation has led to the current Saving Moses(R) Hunger Strike, a fundraising effort, which began in the Christmas season, 2018, and which is continuing to raise funds to counter the great need.

A video of some history of the region plus information about the organization’s work is available here.

One of the young boys helped by Saving Moses(R) had this to say. “When I was a baby I almost died. That is pretty normal where I am from. Malnutrition is a big problem in the world. It kills a lot of baby and toddlers. But not me. A Saving Moses(R) hero saved my life. You can be a Saving Moses(R) hero for one of my friends.”

At the time of this writing, $38 feeds a baby for an entire month. While any gift is helpful, what they are hoping for is to find consistent partners who month after month who will commit to helping a child or children on a regular monthly basis. This is an opportunity for those groups that are looking for a project that makes a real difference in the world. More information is available at the website.

Mickelson late to the course after lightning hits hotel

Aug 19, 2019

MEDINAH, Ill. — Phil Mickelson had a wild Sunday, and that was before he showed up for the BMW Championship. Mickelson said on Twitter that lightning struck the hotel where he was staying, leading to an evacuation. One problem: He was staying on the top floor, his clubs were in his room and his tee time at Medinah was approaching. Mickelson eventually got to the course in time to change shoes in the parking lot, but not after a tweet saying that his clubs served as a fire retardant. He headed to the range to warm up, pausing only to...

He also took a big step toward keeping alive his streak of playing the Tour Championship every year since he turned pro. Matsuyama started and ended his round with a 30-foot birdie putt, the last one giving him the 36-hole lead over Patrick Cantlay (67) and Tony Finau (66). Justin Thomas recovered from three bogeys for a 69...

Reed takes 1-shot lead at FedEx Cup opener

Aug 19, 2019

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Patrick Reed is finally being rewarded with good scores, and he hopes it can be enough to turn around his season. He is winless in the last 16 months dating to the 2018 Masters. He hasn't missed the Tour Championship in five years, and started the FedEx Cup playoffs at No. 50, leaving him little room for a bad week. He is in danger of being left off a U.S. team for the first time since his rookie season in 2013. Reed put himself in position to change his outlook Saturday with a 4-under 67, giving...

Column: A US Open, and a summer of stress for Gary Woodland

Aug 19, 2019

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Gary Woodland made sure plans were in place for him to leave tournaments before he even arrived. And when he did show up, just the sight of officials in a golf cart made him nervous. Most of the time, they were on their way to administer a ruling. Woodland always assumed they were coming to tell him his wife had gone into labor. It was like that for the last six weeks. So the smile that never left him Tuesday at Liberty National Golf Club had nothing to do with the $15 million prize at stake...
